stacks

  • Library under construction. I believe it's Henry H. Rogers (Junior) with the donkey.
  • Old photo. Now there is some landscaping that was done in the '60's -- shrubs, hedges, trees, etc.
  • Some kids in the Children's Room in the 1950's. Good view of the stenciling
  • Old Children's Room. Now the doors have been removed, different lights (same desks)
  • View from Reading Room looking towards old Children's Room. Still ahve the furniture but the walls are now a lighter color. Original color for the walls was maroon with mustard stenciling. Over the years it got lighter with each repainting and is now a pale rose color with off-white stenciling
  • "Trustees Room" is now the Reference Room. Pictures of Czar and Czarina were (fortunately) auctioned off in the 60s or 70s. Still have the copy of the Madonna of the Chair.
  • Older view of the "Trustees Room." Still have the furniture and chairs. Note the empty bookcases....must have been before the library was opened.

  • Figure of Dante on the exterior of the building. On the other side is a portrait of John Milton. Some kind of "Paradise" theme, I guess.

  • Millicent Rogers as the Muse of Poetry. Above this scene is a picture of Shakespeare, but I don't have any photos onhand.

  • John Milton, author of "Paradise Lost" and "Paradise Regained," is on the chimney facing Walnut Street.<br /> If you look closely you will see the image has no pupils....Milton was blind.
