Carolyn Longworth (clongworth)  > Birds > February 2007 > February 5 & 7, 2007
February 5, 6, 7--the Robins finally decided it was time to strip the holly tree. The tree was shaking from the activity and the birds were going crazy over the birdbath. Had to clean and fill several times during the day. They were in their feeding frenzy from dawn to dusk. At least one fell victim to the neighborhood Cooper's -- I saw it happen but couldn't take the picture.

February 7 -- At lunch went to East Fairhaven to document some kestrels seen by a co-worker, but didn't see them. Instead I got a life bird when I noticed a dozen birds go up from a field onto a wire....at first thought they were starlings but the bills were different in silhouette (facing into the sun). They flew back down and I saw the startling yellow....Eastern Meadowlarks. Further along the field were two Northern Harriers who had been flying together and were now lunching.

Next morning, I saw 14 fat Robins in the birdbath at once, although 2 were standing on other birds' backs
