A raccoon got the nestlings of the widowed father sparrow. He visited the site for four days hopping, investigating and calling his babies. I saw the raccoon next morning hanging around the area. Had an oriole in the lilac bush.

Wrens at Pope Park. There were also a pair of Eastern Kingbirds. It was sunny when I got there, but the sky turned purple and there was a violent thunderstorm.

I had seen only this father sparrow feeding the nestlings and taking away the waste products. One morning the nest was torn out and the babies were gone.....raccoon. First time I ever saw one in the yard. Father sparrow visited the disaster scene and called for 4 days.
