July 30, 2009 : After supper went to Mill Road. Watched a Great Egret fly with a large stick, land on a tree, balance the stick on a branch and sit on the stick. When the egret moved, the stick fell into the pond and the bird looked after it wistfully. Another egret flew in with a stick but dropped it before it reached the tree. On the way back to the car, spotted the Great White Blue Heron in a tree asleep. It was not at all bothered by the kids fishing nearby who were pretty noisy and boisterous. Called bird club president Mike who's been looking for this bird and he was coincidentally right behind watching his daughter playing soccer. So he trekked over and saw it. The kids say that the bird was there last evening too.

July 19-20, 2009 : July 20 - White morph Great Blue Heron at Mill Road, eating frogs and fish July 19 - Snowy Egret at Mill Road; Great blue Herons online near Rogers School; Least Sandpiper and Oystercatchers (juv. on right) at Hacker Street.

July 10-11, 2009 : Spent the morning in the marsh at Hacker Street - saw many Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrows. One female (giving the 'chic' call) was accosted by 2 singing males from opposite directions. Saw a nice juvenile all awash with orange. At Atlas Tack there was a Great Blue Heron playing with a stick.

July 1 - 9, 2009 : July 9 - Great Blue Heron white morph at Atlas Tack For better pics see here: http://home.comcast.net/~birdpage/heron/white_heron.html July 4 & 5 - Saltmarsh Sharp-tails at Hacker Street. Trip to West Island, but no photos July 3 -- Atlas Tack. Northern Rough-winged Swallows being fed by parent July 1 -Worked around thunderstorms at Hacker Street. One of the Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrows acceded to my request for a photo of him singing. He hopped to within 3 feet of me, then teed up for a photo. Tthe worst thing I saw was Great Black-backed Gull trying to scarf down an entire freshly killed adult Red-winged Blackbird.
