February 28, 2007 : High 30s very calm, sunny and hazy.
Stony Point. No dead birds, hardly any birds at all. Border collie Tess followed me all the way to the tip. Her owner came and got her.
Around 3 pm, went to Assawompsett to see Mike's Red-throated Loon near Tamarack.

February 17, 2007 : After work at 3, went to Shaw Road. Several cars parked near various fields with birders looking around. Three cars parked near field with Canada Geese. White-fronted Goose really stood out without binoculars because of orange feet.

February 10, 2007 : Cold, but not much wind. Walked my beach at Winsegansett, but only saw a few Bufflehead, Mergs, and one Pipit. Maybe the same solitary bird I saw in November. It was too icy to cross the second inlet, so only walked half of the beach.
Went to West Island town beach. Purring group of over 50 Common Eider. One Great Blue Heron who looked pretty miserable. Heard crow hunters and saw them down one crow.
Went to YMCA where there were tons of Canada Geese. Near the RR bridge there were Hooded Mergs, Goldeneye, some Great Black-backed gulls having a quarrel and heard a Kingfisher. In the River at River Road, a female Bufflehead was mingling with the Mallards.

February 5 & 7, 2007 : February 5, 6, 7--the Robins finally decided it was time to strip the holly tree. The tree was shaking from the activity and the birds were going crazy over the birdbath. Had to clean and fill several times during the day. They were in their feeding frenzy from dawn to dusk. At least one fell victim to the neighborhood Cooper's -- I saw it happen but couldn't take the picture.

February 7 -- At lunch went to East Fairhaven to document some kestrels seen by a co-worker, but didn't see them. Instead I got a life bird when I noticed a dozen birds go up from a field onto a wire....at first thought they were starlings but the bills were different in silhouette (facing into the sun). They flew back down and I saw the startling yellow....Eastern Meadowlarks. Further along the field were two Northern Harriers who had been flying together and were now lunching.
Field is at:

February 3, 2007 : After work (3 pm) went to Long Road. Walked on icy path to the area where they recently cleaned up the stream and cut down a lot of brush along the stream (trucks from Bristol County Mosquito control). There were a bunch of robins in the mud and one odd bird.....a Rusty Blackbird.
Heard some crows making a fuss. Two more small flocks of crows raced to the scene and helped mob a hawk.
Red-bellied Woodpecker, Flicker and Hairy Woodpeckers made a fuss too.
Over 50 robins near the parking area.
