April 17, 2006 : Went to Town Beach and Shipyard farm. Not much.
Winsegansett--The AMOY were at the beginning of the trail. They were making little sounds and flashing their wings once in a while. The smaller male was also looking up with its head cocked and then the female started doing it. I thought they were concerned about the osprey. But while I was trying to delete old photos from my camera, the male hopped onto the female ....then they flew off to separate rocks further out.

April 13 & 14 & 15 : April 13 at lunch at Long Road. The kingfishers weren't there when I got there, but soon the male chattered and flew to near the burrow. Never did see the female. The male sat quiet the whole 15-20 minutes I was there.

April 14--lunch. When I got there, saw a bird(?) flying over the water near the road. It was twittering and swooped down to take a drink on the fly. Then it flew around a while and went behind my car.
Went to the pond. After a couple minutes both kingfishers showed up. Male went to burrow, female sat on tree. After about 15 minutes, felt sorry as they were chattering.
When I got back to my car, the "bird" turned out to be a bat who was just lying there behind my car. It was still breathing, but I was afraid it was sick and didn't pick it up. Left the poor thing there.

April 15--very foggy in the morning. The bat was gone. The kingfishers were still there despite a very busy previous day with dogs, kids fishing and kids even riding bikes on the hill several inches above the nest. Don't know what the birds did but they were back the next morning. The male was on the tree near the hole. I moved further away and the female joined the male who then flew into the hole.

April 12, 2006 : Fabulous day. Went to Long Road in the morning. Heard a Kingfisher there (?!)...then heard another one. Sat still and watched the female wait outside while the male went in and out of a hole in the big mound of dirt. He would stay in there at least a full minute. Then when I got up they flew around a while, then gave up.
The hole had some kind of paper or other litter at the entrance.....don't know if the birds put it there.

April 1-- Got to Gooseberry in Westport around 7-still a little sunrise light. Walked around the whole beach. Went for breakfast at Bayside near Allen's Pond, then off to the big beach at Horseneck. Saw a dead gannet that immediately got washed back away by the waves. By the time I got around to the marsh it started to rain.
